How to use the poster templates

Three steps from a blank wall to a finished printable poster.

  1. 1

    Pick a template

Choose one of the ten designs from the gallery. Every template comes with sample text so you can see the finished look straight away.

  2. 2

    Edit your poster

Type your own headline and details, choose one of three colour schemes and, on the Wanted and Lost Pet templates, add a photo. Long words shrink automatically to fit.

  3. 3

    Print at home

Pick the paper and how many sheets wide the poster should be, download the PDF, print at 100% / “Actual size” and tape the pages together from R1C1 in the top-left corner.

Poster templates for every occasion

Party & birthday

Happy Birthday with bunting and confetti, a Baby Shower arch in soft pastels and a Graduation poster in navy and gold — big enough to be the backdrop for photos.

Classroom

A Classroom Rules poster with a numbered list, plus a Motivational Quote layout. Bold type stays readable from the back row; edit the rules to suit your class.

Events & business

An Event / Party poster for the date, time and address, and a Big Sale poster with a starburst badge for shop windows, markets and garage sales.

Signs & notices

A Welcome banner for the front door, a fun old-west Wanted poster and a high-contrast Lost Pet flyer with tear-off phone number strips.

Tips for posters people can read from across the room

Keep the headline short

Every text box shrinks its words until they fit, so a two- or three-word headline prints much larger than a full sentence. Put the details — date, time, place — in the smaller lines and keep the headline to the one thing people must see.

Size for the viewing distance

As a rule of thumb, letters about 2.5 cm tall can be read from roughly 10 metres. A poster two A4 sheets wide (about 38 × 55 cm) suits a door or notice board; go three or four sheets wide for a hallway, a party backdrop or a shop window.

Choose a colour scheme that suits your printer

Light backgrounds use far less ink than dark ones. If you print a lot of copies — lost pet flyers, for example — pick the black-and-white scheme; save the dark navy or night-sky schemes for a single poster you want to stand out.

Print and assemble cleanly

Always print at 100% / “Actual size”, never “Fit to page”, or the pages will not line up. Turn on the glue overlap if you plan to tape the sheets, trim at the crop marks and work row by row from the top-left page.

Make the photo count

On the Wanted and Lost Pet templates the photo is cropped to fill its frame, so choose a clear, well-lit picture with the face near the centre. For a lost pet, a recent photo that shows markings and colouring helps neighbours recognise the animal at a glance — far more than a cute but blurry snapshot.

How big will my poster be?

The templates start at two sheets wide, which gives a poster of about 38 × 55 cm on A4 paper. Three sheets wide is about 57 × 83 cm and four sheets about 76 × 111 cm — the tool shows the exact size and page count as you change the settings.

Need to cover a specific wall or frame? The poster size calculator tells you how many sheets you need for any size.

Frequently asked questions

Are these poster templates really free?

Yes. All ten templates are free to edit, download and print, with no sign-up, watermark or limit on the number of posters.

Can I change the text on a template?

Yes. Each template has its own text fields — headline, subheading, details or footer — and the poster updates as you type. Text is resized automatically to fit its area.

Can I add my own photo?

The Wanted and Lost Pet templates have a photo area. Add a JPG, PNG or WebP picture and it is cropped to fit; without a photo the layout rearranges so the poster still looks complete.

Is my text or photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The poster is drawn and turned into printable pages entirely in your browser, so your words and pictures never leave your device.

What paper sizes can I print on?

A4, US Letter and A3. Choose the paper and how many sheets wide the poster should be; the PDF contains one page per sheet with crop marks and row/column labels.

Why do my pages not line up?

Usually because the printer scaled them. Print at 100% or “Actual size” and switch off “Fit to page” in the print dialog.

Can I print a template on a single page?

Yes. Set the poster to one sheet wide and you get a regular printable poster on one A4, Letter or A3 page.

Which template works best for a classroom?

The Classroom Rules template turns each line you type into a numbered rule, and the Motivational Quote template suits reading corners. Both read well from the back of a classroom at three sheets wide.

Can I change the colours of a poster template?

Every template comes with three colour schemes designed to work together. Switching scheme recolours the background, text and decorations at once, so the design stays balanced whichever you pick. Lighter schemes save ink; darker ones stand out more on a busy wall.

Are all the poster templates portrait?

Nine of the ten poster templates are portrait, in the same proportions as A-series paper. The Welcome banner is landscape, made to hang above a door or across a wall. Try both portrait and landscape sheets in the settings and keep whichever reaches your size with fewer pages.

How many copies can I print?

As many as you like. Keep the downloaded PDF and print it again whenever you need more — handy for lost pet flyers, sale signs and event posters that go up all around a neighbourhood. For single-page copies, set the poster to one sheet wide and choose the number of copies in your print dialog.

Can I edit my poster again later?

Nothing is saved online, because nothing is uploaded. Keep the PDF for reprints; to change the wording, open the template again, retype the text and download a new file. Picking the same template, colour scheme and number of sheets wide gives you an identical layout with the new words.

Can I download JPG images instead of a PDF?

Yes. Choose “JPG pages (.zip)” as the format to get one image per sheet, numbered in print order. This is useful for photo kiosks and copy shops that prefer images, or for sending a single-page poster to your phone.
